Why would you want to work at obk?

You may not!  We are not right for everybody and a bit wacky for some!  But if you believe in the same things as we do (see “core values") then you may like us and we may like you.  Our core values are very important to us; we try to live and breathe them.

We are passionate about creating value for the owners of small and medium sized businesses and provide a range of valued added services.  This means we don’t just “do the books” and see clients on an annual basis this is the exception, not the norm. We have found to really make a difference in our clients' businesses we need to be actively communicating rather than a passive voice at the year end. So usually we work much closer with our clients, meeting them throughout the year. Because our customer comes first, we look for team members that genuinely care about making a difference and are passionate about what they do

We do not sell time

We do not sell time and we don’t keep timesheets.  Every project is priced to value the service creates and the price agreed in advance.  We then do whatever it takes to delight the client and offer a money-back guarantee if they are not happy.

We fire every client at least annually!

Because we only work on a contract-to-contract basis clients have every opportunity to leave us at any time.  This means me must constantly strive to add value and validate our fees.

We have a proactive marketing programme to generate leads of the type we want.  We are very fussy who we work for turning away more clients than we take on.  We only want to work for business owners who are really serious about developing their business.

World famous!

Because we have a unique business model (fewer, higher value clients, value added services, no timesheets, pricing to value) we have been the subject of many case studies.  Author and speaker Ron Baker has written about obk many times in his various books (see “You are your customer list” and others).  Both Paul O’Byrne and Paul Kennedy have spoken at numerous conferences in USA, Australia and New Zealand and are fellows of Verasage, an organisation trying to change the way the worldwide accounting profession thinks.
